Japanese Ministry Officials Tour Regional Plant

Japanese Officials Study Recycled Water

After an informational meeting and study tour in early December, a full delegation from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) returned later in the month and spent most of the day at the Regional Treatment Plant. "They wanted to study an advanced recycling project to determine how the technology and processes might be used in a similar national project being planned for their Shimajiri Irrigation Project in Okinawa," states Karen Harris, MRWPCA Community Relations representative.

MRWPCA Board of Directors Vice Chair David Pendergrass greeted the visitors, and General Manager Keith Israel gave an opening presentation. Afterwards, the group toured the plant and delivery system (Castroville Seawater Intrusion Project).

Representing MAFF were Assistant Director Motofumi Tone and Assistant Manager Noriyuki Takahashi, Project Planning Division, Rural Development Bureau; and Consul for Agricultural and Economic Affairs Hideki Kawashima, Consulate General of Japan, San Francisco.
